The Lord's Prayer
protects us from evil

The Lord's Prayer Helps to Overcome

We zigzag through a battlefield in our Christian lives. As children of God, we struggle to win victory over the enticement of the Devil in the Lord’s world. The power of God helps push the darkness away when we walk in the Light of Jesus Christ.

As children of the Father, we need to understand how our enemy works and what stops his harassment. The Word of God reveals several ways to protect us. The Bible gives us several different levels of prayers for self-protection. In this book, I shall start with the well-known methods and progress through the different types of prayer given in Scripture.

Speak the Lord's Prayer

The disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray: He, knowing its importance, gave them the Lord's Prayer (Luke 11:1–4). The Christian Church has used the Lord's Prayer in personal and corporate worship since the Resurrection of Christ. Jesus gave us the Lord's Prayer to use as a vehicle to lead us to the Throne of our Father. The Lord's Prayer gives us peace, love, forgiveness, and protection.

In the Lord's Prayer, we give praise to our Father and ask him to send his kingdom to us. We ask that his will be done on earth as in Heaven. We ask our Father to take care of us and to forgive us for the sins that we commit, as we should also forgive others for their sins. We then ask our Father to keep us from temptation and to protect us from evil. Part of the body of Christ then ends the prayer by offering God his kingdom, his power, and his glory forever and ever. Amen! (Matt. 6:9–13).

The Lord's Prayer from the cross gives peace

The Lord's Prayer Brings Peace and Grace

Speaking the Lord's Prayer gives us protection from the evil one. Every petition in it has a special purpose. A few years ago the Devil was giving me problems, so I began to say the Lord's Prayer at least once every day. It always seemed to help!

We don’t understand how God works through all the petitions in the Lord's Prayer, but our Father does. Jesus gave it to his disciples and to us. We should faithfully follow the example of Jesus and say it every day.

The Lord's Prayer from Matthew 6 (KJV)

9b Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Father God, I thank you for the gift of the Lord's Prayer that you give to each of us. The Lord's Prayer helps protect our lives and spirits here on earth as we draw near to you. Help each of us to faithfully speak the Lord's Prayer in our walk through this world.
