Prayers we can use
to Protect us from Harm

Prayers protect us from the powers of darkness in this world. This page shows the type of prayers that I use to keep evil away from myself and family.

17And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; 18That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great. 19And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army (Rev. 19:17–19, KJV).

The Feast of God

John begins the third section of chapter 19. We see another short view of the Gospel Age and the end of the two beasts. John paints a gruesome picture of the end of people and nations that oppose God. They invite birds to eat the flesh of seven classes of men on the earth. The beast of the earth and the people of the earth gather … to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.

The saints of God fight against the armies of the beast throughout the Gospel Age by the power of the Holy Spirit and prayers. The saints overcome Satan, his fallen angels, and his people on earth by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony (Rev. 12:11). We as children of God stand against the forces of darkness by our prayers, the Word, and the shed blood.

Prayers to use

In this section, I list the types of prayers that work for me. The ultimate intercessor Jesus Christ and the Bible give us many principles of prayer. This summary shows what the Lord has revealed to me from twenty years experience in intercession.

Christ the Lord understands the kingdom of darkness better than any of us can. The Bible and the Holy Spirit has given me insight into the forces of good and evil. Yet, I don’t know all that happens and all the reasons. Prayers that seem to work for one person may not work for others. The subject seems too large for any of us to comprehend this side of Heaven.

Prayers for Self-Protection

Every Christian should ask God to station angels around their family and themselves. Each of us should walk around his or her home and property to put a spiritual line of protection with the shed blood of Jesus. Linda and I reinforce our line of spiritual protection by walking around our home at least once a year.

I pray each day against the forces of darkness in my life and my family’s life. I begin by asking God to forgive me for any sin in my life. I than say the Lord’s Prayer and put on the full armor of God. I then command every spirit, germ, virus, principality, or power from Satan to leave Linda and me in the name of Jesus Christ. I command these and every influence from the Devil that’s not from God to leave us and go to Jesus in his name. I also stand against everything with the shed blood of Jesus Christ.

I started doing this every day sixteen years ago to keep the Devil from knocking on my door. I increased this to twice a day a year ago because spiritual warfare has increased since I started to write this book.

The Wild One

The Devil’s demons remind me of a wild animal that Jesus Christ holds with a choker chain. The devil and his demons run through the world seeking to mar their victims with spiritual claw and teeth marks. When they get close, they drool on the unaware to contaminate them. They then spray on their victims to mark their spiritual domain.

Jesus Christ shortens the chain when we pray self-defense prayers. The wild one may charge us in the spirit realms, but our Lord jerks him short of us. Sometimes in our spiritual walk, we can feel his hot breath against our tender skin (1 Cor. 10:13).

Prayers from the cross protect our lives from evil

Prayers of the cross protect our lives from ruin

Every child of God needs to develop his or her own method of praying. The Holy Spirit will teach us what to do when we ask him. I use two more types of prayer that seem to have more effect. Yet, you must use them with care when praying for yourself and especially for other people.

Prayers of Protection

I have put a spiritual hedge around my family and myself (Job 1:10). Satan gave strong opposition when I began to build a spiritual hedge around my family and me.

In my prayers, I remind God of this hedge around us. Every few days, I ask the Lord to fill any holes the demons try to worm their way through.

One prayer keeps the kingdom of darkness at a distance. The Devil appears to resist me more when I give the Lord permission to rebuke the spirits that cross the hedge around me (Jude 1:8–10). I don’t rebuke the spirits, but I give Jesus permission to rebuke them. This causes the evil forces to stand away. I say, "May the Lord rebuke you in the name of Jesus."

Because I maintain the spiritual hedge and permit the Lord to rebuke any wayward demons, the kingdom of Satan stays at a distance from me. I use a series of self-defense prayers and increase the volume when needed. I am flexible and change types of prayers as the Holy Spirit leads. This keeps the Devil’s influence away from my family and me. I pray every day with persistence because from past experience I don’t want to give Satan an opening.

Some Christians may think that I spend too much time praying for God’s protection. If I don’t pray this way, problems happen. Every Christian has his or her separate walk with Christ. Unless you follow Christ into the heat of intercession, you probably won’t need to do this.

The Devil’s kingdom works in the background around many of God’s children. When Christians don’t stay alert, the energy from the demons of Babylon slowly increases. The change takes place over weeks, months, and years. Satan’s elusive plans cause changes in what the person considers important. The child of God then begins to take his or her eyes off Jesus and fix them on the world. Our Savior of Love may then allow an incident to happen in the person’s life to bring his focus back to Jesus Christ.
